Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about how MyFinalVideo works, what it protects against and what it does not.

Basics

What is MyFinalVideo?

MyFinalVideo (myfinalvideo.com, formerly MyFinalMessage) is a digital legacy service. You record or upload private video messages, choose who should receive each one, and the messages are delivered only after missed proof-of-life check-ins and confirmation by your emergency contact.

What is a final video message?

A personal recording made in advance for the people you love: memories, thanks, advice, apologies or a simple goodbye. It is meant to be watched after you are gone, or on a date that matters to your family.

Is MyFinalVideo a will or a legal document?

No. Messages are personal memories. They are not a will, a medical directive or legal instructions, and they do not replace estate planning with a qualified professional.

Who is it for?

Adults who want to leave words for their family: parents and grandparents, people with a serious diagnosis, people in risky jobs, and anyone who wants their voice and face to reach someone at the right moment.

Which languages are supported?

The web app is available in English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Hindi, Russian, Ukrainian, Japanese, Korean and Afrikaans.

Check-ins and delivery

How does MyFinalVideo know when to deliver a message?

You choose a check-in interval between one month and eight years. We email you at that interval. If you do not answer, reminders follow on days 7 and 14 and a final warning on day 21. From day 22 your emergency contact is asked to check on you. A message is released only after the emergency contact confirms, followed by a cooldown of 48 hours.

Can silence alone release my videos?

No. Missed check-ins start an escalation, but release requires explicit confirmation by your emergency contact. After 29 days without any response the case goes to review; silence is never treated as proof of death.

What if I am just on holiday or in hospital?

Confirming any check-in (submitting the form linked in the email) cancels a pending release. Your emergency contact can also tell us you are fine. Choose an interval that fits your life and an emergency contact who can reach you.

Can I hold a message until a specific date?

Yes. You can choose a yearly date, such as a birthday or anniversary. Release then waits for the next occurrence of that date after confirmation.

Can a message be sent by mistake?

Automated systems can fail, so a false dispatch is possible even with these safeguards. Delivered emails and downloaded copies cannot be recalled. We explain this before you upload so you can decide what to record.

Recipients

How many recipients can each video have?

Up to three recipients per video on every plan.

What do recipients receive?

An email with a personal, time-limited link. The link works for 90 days and the recipient can watch and download the video during that time.

Do recipients need an account?

No. Recipients open the link from their email. They can also report a message they believe was sent by mistake.

Security and privacy

Are my videos encrypted?

Yes. Videos are encrypted in your browser with AES-256-GCM before upload, and keys are protected with Google Cloud KMS. Recipient delivery uses server-assisted key re-wrapping, so MyFinalVideo is not an absolute zero-knowledge service.

Where is my data stored?

On Google Cloud. The application runs in europe-west1 (Belgium); the database and the encrypted video storage are in us-central1 (United States). Details are in the Privacy Policy.

What happens to my data after delivery?

Delivered messages enter a 180-day cleanup period after dispatch, then the stored copies are deleted. Backups and versioning have their own retention periods.

What if I forget my password?

Password recovery erases the old vault before you regain access, because your old keys cannot be recovered. Keep an independent copy of recordings that matter to you.

Plans and payment

How much does MyFinalVideo cost?

The free trial lasts 14 days and includes one video. Essential costs $20 once for three videos. Family costs $60 once for the owner plus three family members, each with three videos. Enterprise is priced per account for organisations.

Is it a subscription?

No. Plans are one-time payments with no automatic renewal. Continued operation depends on funding, maintenance and provider availability; no guaranteed service duration is offered.

How can I pay?

By card (and other methods Dodo supports in your country) through Dodo Payments, which acts as Merchant of Record. Cryptocurrency is not accepted.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. You can ask for a full refund within 14 days of purchase by writing to [email protected] from your registered email address. Refunds go back to the original payment method through Dodo Payments.

Can I give MyFinalVideo as a gift?

Yes. You can buy a gift licence for the Essential or Family plan and send the code to someone you care about.
